Troglodyte Tears

Earlier this week, multi-instrumentalist and novelty-funk impresario Jimmy Castor died at the age of 71. I first became aware of Mr Castor's work through a post at Thunder's place. Let us remember Mr Castor, not only for his music, but for his work in the field of paleoanthropology:

When I clicked over, I thought for sure this was going to be about South Carolina Republicans.

Not that I'm complaining...

Jimmy Castor, Etta James & Johnny Otis. There's your three deaths.

And let me retell this story: Early '70s, I used to ride the bus from S.F. to Berkeley daily, & on a public housing bldg. several hundred yards from the road, in letters big enough to be visible from the road, someone had written over a door "BERTHA BUTT LIVES HERE," w/ an arrow pointing to the door. Nice.

Thanks for making me aware of it!

Those ARE some funk-eh lyrics!

"She started crushing him, but then she began to like him!"

Yeah, I wrote this on Thursday night, and was too busy to post about Etta's passing.

I think Newt's going to leave Callista for one of the Butt sisters.

I always thought she was a fictional character... do you think the "tag" was an advertisement, or was it a historical marker?

Well, it did date back to prehistoric times...

I saw Etta in Montreal about 1989. She was huge, wore black spandex and did pelvic thrusts at her son on drums throughout "Jump Into My Fire." She's my favourite singer of all time. Jimmy Castor's funk-ehhh!
