Major Acquisition

In yesterday's post, I mentioned that I was preoccupied with errands this week... well, most of that time was occupied with one major errand, buying an automobile. It was time, my 2002 vintage car was getting a little tired, so I donated it to the American Diabetes Association. I was finally able to buy a small, economical 5-speed manual transmission 2013 Honda with an absurdly low odometer reading:

When I drove the car out of the dealership, it had 308 miles on it. Yeah, you read that right. The car handles nicely, I like the way it handles- the gear shift feels nice, and while not a fast car, it's a smooth ride. I've never been a leadfood at any rate. The car is small, but roomy, it' comfortable... all round, it's a sensible little ride, a perfect commuter car. I haven't named it yet, but I'm thinking of calling it Tamago-chan, or G-4 (yeah, still binge watching Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, currently at episode 69) because of the egg-like shape of the car.

Enough of my gushing over a bit of metal, glass, and plastic... how about a comical number from the Buzzcocks that's appropriate to the subject of this post?

Whoa! Did someone get cold feet, & then the dealer just couldn't move it for two or three yrs.? Don't leave us in suspense!

That's crazy low mileage. Demo? Fugly model that didn't sell? Hmm... there was an Accord model from around that time that had styling only a mother, or maybe a bastard, could love...

Oh, and congrats. Enjoy the new car smell!

Dammit, hit submit too soon.

Continuing directly, IIRC, your old car had been contaminated by rancid boots in the trunk after hurricane Irene. Why my brain remembers things like that I'll never know.

I will let you know if the Buzzcocks play that toon in their NZ tour. Did I mention that the Frau Doktorin bought me a ticket?

I think it was a second car, used only for occasional train station trips.

Nah, it's a pretty nondescript little car. Maybe the previous owner wasn't married to the whole stick-shift thing.

It's funny, I'm not really into that aroma.

I don't recall that... I'm pretty diligent about keeping the boots waterproofed, and when it's really swampy out, I bust out the water shoes.

Awesome, now that gal is a keeper!

Congrats, B^4.

I've had good luck with the Thundermobile. Except for the a.c. dying at 6 years, right after the warranty did. (Typical, the internet says.)

Also, the electric brain that controls everything needs replacing, I can't lock all four doors or the alarm will start going off periodically. (There's no other way around this, the internet says.)

Memory is a fickle thing -- I found it:

"I'm ready to burn the boots I wore on Sunday, while dealing with Irene. I have them in the trunk of my car, and the whole car stinks."

Again, why I remember this kind of crap and not the important stuff is beyond me.
